Have owned several pairs over the years and love them. These are the best headphones for under 100 by far. Have tried many others, including px200 not even close to these.
They don't have the "big" sound of full-sized cans and they aren't really "open" sounding, but for the price. Finally, after bringing full-sized sony's Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil in my lunch bag to work for a few days, I ordered something a bit more inconspicuous: the Sennheiser PX 100. I own the se 100 shure which I got cheap cheap cheap and they sound cheap cheap cheap. I have yet to find a set that I like. But the igrado (lame name. It's a lousy way to listen to music if I really wanna LISTEN to music.
The sony's at least fold up, but not quite as small as necessary and you should see someone wearing those in public. Were the Senn people planning on selling these at ikea with that geedee bookcase that I assembled from a picture drawn by a 6 year old Romanian orphan. Sent them back. So what have I learned about sticking stuff in my ear canal. I'm aware that another option is a visit to an audiologist for custom-molded ear pieces and custom ear monitors, but I'm not going on tour just yet. someone in imarketing must be looking for a new ijob over at grado) don't fold for storage in my bag, nor do they have a protective case that I'm aware of. Grado makes an igrado (available here:Grado i Headphones for iPod - BLACK). Maybe it was drawn by a Jordanian orphan). One last note: Apple stock ear buds aren't really as bad as advertised.
Every time I stuck in those uncomfortable plugs I found myself cursing the absence of any true high frequencies. Punk Rock, Dog.So, how do they sound. And though they don't have a flat frequency response (too much bass, recessed upper mids) they sound perfectly fine. These Senns actually provide decent treble.
I hate ear buds and iem's (in ear monitors). I like music THAT MUCH).One last comment: these took a few minutes to learn how to fold and store in the protective case. Perhaps Sennheiser may wish to improve on this. Sounded as bad as the shures and they were even less comfortable (if that's possible) and more cheaply made (parts of them were falling to pieces the first 5 minutes). The sennheisers are really the only choice for non ear buds that are truely portable.
Good. I sampled a friend's shure se 500 dollars or whatever and they weren't nearly as good as I had hoped. (Okay, so I don't wanna pick on Romanian orphans. But the grado's aren't really portable and they don't even fold up. (Actually, when I mow the lawn or wear earphones in noisy places I will still put up with those pieces of crap. Good enough that I should be able to forget about the sound quality of my headphones and enjoy some music. And the only directions consist of a picture diagram on the back of the case. But, much like the other ear buds and iems I've tried, they lack high end.
My shures have taught me what the reviews mean by "sounds congested on complex musical passages." I also tried some altec lansing in ear which were rebranded ultimate ears "stupid hi" 3's (I think). Not perfect. Seriously, wtf. Nothing but bass and muddy subdued highs. That's something I just couldn't do with my shures. As close to perfect as I've heard are these: Grado Prestige Series SR80i Stereo Headphone. It's a great way to hear music over engine noise, etc. Good.
They sound awesome. I little high in the midrange, but what portable phones aren't.
Sennheiser did their homework with these headphones and it shows. They are way comfortable to wear and fold up nicely to fit in a bag or pocket.
I have been listening to portable music players for over twenty years. Treble is good.
Buy them you'll like 'em. These phones have it down.
Bass response is good, not overdone nor just not there.
I am very happy with the comfort and sound. My son-in-law had one a Sennheiser PX100 and told me it was great. I tryed several at the stores and the price was much higher for anything of similar quality.
Also am worried that the foam/sponge ear covers will rot, and I dont know where I will be able to get replacements. And equally important, you can wear these for long periods of time with no discomfort. They really are a best buy.Negatives: they are open, so will not isolate you. I got these for my iPod to use around the house. The bass is really good and better than much more expensive headphones. Not for airline travel (use CX300s instead) but at home when I cant use my stereo and I want to know whats going on about me.These headphones rock. Midrange and treble are also very clear and sweet.
